When Does It Happen? 📅
The festival takes place on a day called Dol Gyaras or Jaljulni Ekadashi. In 2024, it will be on September 14th, from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM. This day always falls in the Hindu month of Bhadrapada, during the bright half of the moon.
What Happens During the Festival? 🎭
- The Grand Procession: At 6:00 PM, a statue of Lord Ram (called Ram Raja Sarkar) comes out of the temple in a fancy procession. 🚶♂️🚶♀️
- The Salute: When the procession reaches the temple’s main gate, there’s a special salute with guns firing 4, 2, and 1 times. 💥
- The Journey: Lord Ram’s statue is carried in a palanquin (like a fancy chair) with lots of music from DJs and bands. 🎵
- The Water Ritual: Around 8:00 PM, they reach the river. Here, they do a special bathing ceremony for Lord Ram. 🌊
- The Return: After the water ritual, everyone goes back to the temple. 🏃♂️🏃♀️
- Prasad Distribution: At the temple, they give out Prasad (blessed food) to all the people there. Usually, about 5,000 people come to celebrate! 🍬
