New Delhi: Prithvi Shaw, who was once seen as the future star of the Indian cricket team, has been surrounded by controversies from time to time, which has also had a bad effect on his cricket career. These days Prithvi is also in discussions about his fitness, due to which he has also been dropped from the Mumbai squad in the Ranji Trophy. Amidst all this, India’s legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has supported this young player.
In an article, Sunil Gavaskar said, “If Prithvi Shaw has been dropped for his attitude and not following discipline, then the matter of his ouster can be understood. I read somewhere that Prithvi has been dropped due to his weight, but I hope he has not been dropped due to weight. It was told that his body fat was 35 per cent more.”
Sunil Gavaskar came out in support of Prithvi Shaw:
Sunil Gavaskar believes that the fitness of a player should not be judged through body structure and weight. He gave the example of Sarfaraz Khan, who is trolled for his body, yet played a brilliant innings of 150 runs against New Zealand. Gavaskar said, “We saw how Sarfaraz Khan played a good innings in the test match held in Bangalore. Sarfaraz, who is in the news due to his weight, proved by playing an innings of 150 runs that your body structure or weight does not determine your cricket fitness.”
According to Gavaskar, the real definition of cricket fitness should be that a batsman scores more than 150 runs or is able to play for the whole day. On the other hand, a bowler who can bowl 20 overs is fit in the cricket sense.
